Job description
About Leapfrog
Leapfrog is on a mission to be a role model technology company. Since 2010, we have relentlessly worked on crafting better digital products with our team of superior engineers. We’re a full-stack company specializing in SaaS products and have served over 100 clients with our mastery of emerging technologies.
We’re thinkers and doers, creatives and coders, makers and builders— but most importantly, we are trusted partners with world-class engineers. Hundreds of companies in Boston, Seattle, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco choose us to gain speed, agility, quality, and stability, giving them an edge over their competitors.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our talented engineering teams. In this critical leadership role, you will be a player-coach, responsible for guiding the technical direction of projects, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software. You will work closely with tech leads, product managers, and clients to drive high-impact initiatives, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position requires a unique blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and proven people-first leadership.
Technical Leadership & Strategy
Lead the technical design, architecture, and development of scalable, reliable, and high-quality software solutions.
Be technically hands-on; provide expert guidance, conduct code reviews, and contribute directly to the codebase when needed to unblock your team or tackle complex problems.
Enforce a high standard for code quality, ensuring all software shipped is well-tested, maintainable, and production ready.
Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions and realistic project roadmaps.
Lead root cause analysis for technical incidents, document post-mortems, and drive the implementation of long-term fixes to improve system reliability.
Champion and enforce engineering best practices, including coding standards, advanced testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E), and CI/CD processes.
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for their adoption where they can provide a competitive advantage.
Project Delivery & Execution
Partner with Project Managers and Tech Leads to oversee project execution, ensuring teams meet delivery timelines with high-quality output.
Identify and proactively remove technical or process-related obstacles to ensure smooth project delivery.
Define and track key engineering metrics (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate) to monitor and improve team performance.
Effectively communicate project progress, technical challenges, and risks to both internal and client stakeholders.
Team Management & Mentorship
Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of software engineers, fostering a positive, productive, and growth-oriented environment.
Coach engineers on their career paths and personal growth, aligning their development with team and company goals.
Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide constructive feedback, and manage the performance review process.
Coordinate with the recruitment team to attract, interview, and onboard top engineering talent that aligns with our technical standards and company culture.
Manage team dynamics, resolve interpersonal issues, and ensure a healthy, collaborative team culture.
