  • Engineering Manager

Job description

We are looking for a hands-on and proactive Senior Technical Engineering Manager (SEM). As an SEM, you will play a key leadership role—supporting engineering delivery, growing team capabilities, and aligning technology efforts with company’s mission.
You’ll work closely with tech leads and product stakeholders to drive high-impact projects. You will also serve as a mentor, motivator, and force multiplier for your team—ensuring a positive, high-performance environment while staying close to the code when needed. This is a leadership role that demands technical acumen, people-first management, and strategic thinking.

  • Be technically hands-on and capable of providing technical direction, design input, and code-level support when required.

  • Work closely with project leads to drive large-scale projects in a self-starter, independent manner.

  • Handle production incidents in partnership with support teams—lead root cause analysis and ensure post-mortem documentation and action.

  • Propose and track key quality metrics and foster a strong culture of testing, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Demonstrate strong interest and motivation to understand the business domain, logic, and rules, with a problem-solving mindset focused on real-world use cases and systems.

  • Be deeply invested in the project’s success—actively look for opportunities to improve engineering processes and the employee experience.

  • Represent engineering in stakeholder meetings—communicate project progress, risks, technical challenges, and team health.

  • Select, onboard, and retain team members that align with Phil’s goals and Leapfrog’s engineering standards.

  • Build and nurture a high-performing team culture based on collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Estimate engineering efforts accurately and create realistic implementation schedules and roadmaps. Set delivery expectations to the client.

  • Conduct regular feedback and performance reviews, and ensure team members are coached for long-term growth.

  • Motivate junior and mid-level developers by supporting their career growth, goal setting, and skill development.

  • Regularly monitor and support team engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

  • Set the tone for the team—create a positive, productive, and growth-oriented work environment.

  • Be a solid team player with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and help the team succeed at all levels.

Job requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.

  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Node.js, Golang) and experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, or Angular).

  • Have a solid understanding of distributed system design and development and software development best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead distributed teams and collaborate across time zones.

  • Experience with stakeholder management and aligning engineering execution with business priorities.

  • A passion for mentoring and growing developers into strong contributors and future leaders.

  • Experience handling production support, root-cause analysis, and driving systemic fixes.

  • Familiarity with metrics-driven development, process improvement, and technical due diligence.

  • Prior exposure to the healthcare, pharmacy, or health-tech space is a plus.
